When to Visit South Luangwa National Park
South Luangwa is Zambia's premier safari destination, famous for walking safaris and leopard sightings. September and October offer the most intense wildlife experience. Temperatures soar but the bush is at its thinnest, and animals are desperate for water along the Luangwa River. Night drives reveal leopards, civets, and genets regularly.

The best time to visit South Luangwa is May to October during the dry season when animals gather at the river. September and October offer the best wildlife concentration as water sources dry up completely.
Dry season days are warm at 25 to 35 degrees Celsius with cool nights dropping to 5 to 10 degrees. The wet season from November to April brings heavy rain and flooding.
May to June (early dry season) has lower rates than peak months. Travelling during shoulder or low seasons can save you 20 to 40% on accommodation and tours while still providing excellent wildlife viewing.
Peak season at South Luangwa is August to October when the park is at its driest and game viewing peaks. Book accommodation and tours well in advance for peak dates, as popular lodges and camps sell out months ahead.
