Day 1: Arrival in Kota Kinabalu
Arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. Transfer to your hotel in the city and explore the waterfront.

Try the seafood at the Filipino Market night market — it's fresh, cheap, and absolutely delicious.
Day 2: Fly to Sandakan — Sepilok Orangutan Centre
Short flight to Sandakan, then visit the world-famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Watch semi-wild orangutans swing down for their feeding sessions.

- Fly Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan (45 min)
- Morning feeding at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre
- Visit the adjacent Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre
- Rainforest Discovery Centre canopy walkway
The 10am feeding session is busier — arrive at 9am for a front-row spot on the viewing platform.
Day 3: Sepilok to Kinabatangan River
Transfer to the Kinabatangan River, Sabah's longest river and a wildlife corridor teeming with proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, and hornbills.
Activities
- Drive to Kinabatangan (2.5 hours)
- Afternoon river cruise for proboscis monkeys
- Sunset cruise for pygmy elephants
- Night river cruise for crocodiles and owls
The late afternoon cruise often delivers the best proboscis monkey sightings — they come to the riverbank to sleep.
Day 4: Full Day on the Kinabatangan
Dawn and dusk river cruises with a forest walk in between. The Kinabatangan is one of the best places in Borneo to see wild orangutans from the boat.

- Dawn river cruise for wild orangutans
- Morning oxbow lake walk
- Afternoon cruise to different river section
- Night safari walk for tarsiers and civets
Wild orangutans are most visible at dawn when they leave their sleeping nests. Look for the swaying trees.
Day 5: Kinabatangan to Danum Valley
Drive to Danum Valley Conservation Area, one of the world's most pristine primary rainforest reserves. This 130-million-year-old forest feels truly primeval.
Activities
- Drive to Danum Valley (2.5 hours)
- Afternoon guided rainforest walk
- Canopy walkway experience (40m above the forest floor)
- Night drive for flying squirrels and sambar deer
The canopy walkway offers a bird's-eye view of the rainforest — rhinoceros hornbills often fly at canopy level here.
Day 6: Full Day in Danum Valley
Immerse yourself in the pristine rainforest with guided walks, a river swim at the natural jacuzzi, and a night walk to discover Borneo's nocturnal creatures.

- Dawn bird walk with naturalist guide
- Trek to the ancient Coffin Cliffs
- Swim in the Danum River natural pool
- Night walk for tarsiers, slow lorises, and insects
Wear leech socks on every forest walk — Danum Valley has plenty of leeches, but they're harmless and part of the experience.
Day 7: Danum Valley to Kota Kinabalu & Departure
Early morning nature walk, then drive back to Lahad Datu airport for a flight to Kota Kinabalu and your onward connection.

- Drive to Lahad Datu airport (2.5 hours)
- Fly to Kota Kinabalu
- Connect with international departure
