Best Time to Visit Masai Mara National Reserve FAQ

The best time to visit the Masai Mara is July to October when the Great Migration arrives. January to February is excellent for big cat action and the wildebeest calving season in the southern Serengeti.

Temperatures are pleasant year-round at 15 to 28 degrees Celsius. The long rains fall from March to May, with short rains in November.

April and May (long rains) and November offer lower rates and fewer crowds. Travelling during shoulder or low seasons can save you 20 to 40% on accommodation and tours while still providing excellent wildlife viewing.

Peak season at the Masai Mara is August to September during the dramatic Mara River crossings. Book accommodation and tours well in advance for peak dates, as popular lodges and camps sell out months ahead.
